Parliament Ratifies Key Financing Agreements to Boost Sierra Leone's Development.

In a decisive move to enhance the socioeconomic landscape of the nation, the Parliament of Sierra Leone has ratified a series of financing agreements aimed at key infrastructure and agricultural projects. The agreements, passed on Tuesday the 25th November 2025, are primarily focused on the reconstruction of the Kambia Tomparie Kamakwie road and the Livestock and Livelihoods Development Project.
Among the agreements ratified are several loan and agency agreements with the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) related to the Kambia road project, which is expected to significantly improve transport and market access in the North-Western Region. Additionally, financing agreements for the Livestock and Livelihoods Development Project were also approved, aimed at bolstering agricultural productivity and supporting 62,000 households under the Feed Salone Initiative.
During the session, Minister of Finance, Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura, emphasized the transformative potential of these projects. "By improving access to markets and supporting livestock development, we are laying the groundwork for sustainable economic growth," he stated, also noting the government's commitment to monitor the access to finance for farmers.
The Chairman of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Hon. Amara Kai Samba, lauded the Kamakwie Road construction as a vital development initiative, urging for thorough investment in livestock production to reduce reliance on imports. He expressed confidence that the agreements would serve the intended beneficiaries effectively.
Opposition Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara, welcomed the financing agreements, asserting their potential benefits for Sierra Leoneans. He highlighted the critical role of road construction in national development and called for political unity in supporting such initiatives.
Deputy Leader of Government Business, Hon. Bashiru Silikie, stressed the importance of tollgate provisions on the Kamakwie Road for long-term sustainability and urged the Finance Minister to empower the Sierra Leone Roads Authority in contract awards.
Several members of Parliament voiced their support for the livestock project, highlighting the challenges farmers face in securing financing. Hon. Keikura Vandi from Bo District expressed optimism that the agreements would alleviate these issues, while Hon. Mustapha Sellu from Moyamba District echoed the need for improved access to bank loans.
Hon. Musa Fonah from Kono District described the Kamakwie Road Project as a significant boon for the nation, commending the government for its financial commitment. Similarly, Hon. Abdul Karim Bangura acknowledged the road project as a fulfillment of President Bio's promise to the people of Karene District.
In concluding remarks, Acting Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Daniel Brima Koroma, praised the ratification of the agreements and expressed a willingness to support the initiatives, particularly emphasizing the long-standing need for the Kamakwie Road project.
Acting Leader of Government Business, Hon. Emerson Saa Lamina, wrapped up the debate by reiterating the government's commitment to socioeconomic development through these agreements. He highlighted the importance of the road project and the livestock initiative, calling for legislative measures to support sustainable agricultural practices and prevent conflicts.
As Parliament moves forward with these agreements, the focus remains on effective implementation to ensure the anticipated benefits translate into tangible improvements for the people of Sierra Leone.
