Route 360 Solutions Initiative, a youth-led organisation committed to sustainability and environmental protection, has engaged community stakeholders at Gbagbayillah Face Two Community. The initiative, founded by innovative university graduates from diverse career backgrounds, aims to contribute to national development by creating jobs rather than relying solely on government employment. The organisation focuses on recycling, reforestation, and human capacity building.
The engagement, chaired by Mr. Elijah Edwin, Project Coordinator of Route 360 Solutions Initiative, highlighted the significance of environmental sustainability. He thanked the community’s leadership for allowing the team to hold discussions. He also referenced the devastating mudslide of 2017, attributing it to deforestation and human activities, underscoring the urgency of preserving nature.
Mr. Mohamed Conteh, Project Leader of Route 360 Solutions Initiative, outlined the importance of the meeting, which centered on the forthcoming Tree Planting Project. He commended the community for its overwhelming turnout and support, stating that their participation was unmatched compared to previous engagements. Conteh provided a brief background on the organisation, emphasising its mission to preserve the environment. He noted that extensive research had identified Gbagbayillah Face Two Community as an ideal location for the project due to its geographical landscape. He encouraged residents to take environmental conservation seriously, as reforestation is crucial in combating climate change.
Delivering the keynote address, Mr Alusine H. Bangura, Chief Operating Officer of Route 360 Solutions Initiative, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to tree planting, recycling, and human capacity development. He stressed that climate change poses significant risks, and reforestation is a key strategy to mitigate its effects. Bangura assured the community of the project’s long-term benefits, including job creation for youths. He urged residents to fully embrace the initiative, as it serves as an awareness-raising campaign and a pathway to economic empowerment.
Mr. Sallieu Barba Kamara, an agricultural specialist with Route 360 Solutions Initiative, highlighted the adverse effects of deforestation. He advised community members to prioritise environmental preservation, stating that planting trees is crucial in preventing natural disasters. Kamara added that the organisation’s objectives extend beyond environmental conservation to human capacity building, ensuring local residents gain valuable skills for future opportunities.
Community leaders warmly welcomed the initiative, including Chief Senesie Dawa, Chief Pa Alimamie, and Chief Yabom Poseh. They pledged their unwavering support and emphasised that the project would benefit a select few, the entire community, and the environment. They encouraged the youth to seize the opportunity and actively participate in the project.
Other stakeholders present included Mr Success Sheka Brima (Coordinator), Mr Ibrahim Sorie Kamara (Youth Leader), and Mr Sheku M.S. Kamara (Secretary General for Light of Palm’s Health). They supported the Tree Planting Project and thanked Route 360 Solutions Initiative for selecting their community for such an impactful venture.
