Sierra Leone and Ghana Strengthen Bilateral Ties, Focus on Economic Cooperation Under AfCFTA.

In a significant diplomatic engagement, the Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, has completed a productive working visit to the Republic of Ghana. The visit culminated in a substantive meeting with Ghana’s Vice President, Her Excellency Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

The discussions between the two leaders served to reaffirm the strong and enduring bilateral relationship between Sierra Leone and Ghana, rooted in shared history and mutual respect. A principal outcome was the mutual agreement to pursue deeper collaboration in strategic economic sectors. These sectors include natural gas development, national digitalization projects, mining logistics, and the expansion of bilateral trade.

Vice President Dr. Jalloh underscored the pragmatic focus of the dialogue. "Sierra Leone and Ghana share a long-standing fraternal bond," he stated. "Our discussions today were centered on moving beyond rhetoric to forge practical partnerships in areas with the proven potential to stimulate economic growth and generate employment for our citizens."

A central theme of the meeting was the critical importance of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as a vehicle for prosperity. Both leaders emphasized their commitment to South-South cooperation and the necessity of African economic integration.

Vice President Opoku-Agyemang highlighted the AfCFTA as "the essential framework for facilitating trade among African nations, enabling us to add value to our indigenous resources, and thereby accelerating the continent's development trajectory."

Echoing this sentiment, Vice President Dr. Jalloh confirmed that both nations are aligned in their objectives. "We are committed to working in close harmony," he affirmed, "to ensure these efforts yield mutual benefits for the people of Sierra Leone and Ghana, while contributing to the broader progress of the African continent."

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to translate the discussed frameworks into concrete actions, further solidifying a partnership aimed at fostering sustainable development and regional stability.
