The Rt. Hon. Speaker, Segepoh Solomon Thomas Esq, joined global leaders in commemorating World Children’s Day, celebrated under the theme “My Days, My Right.” The observance featured a special parliamentary sitting in which the Chamber was filled with school pupils, transforming the historic setting into a vibrant celebration of youth.
In his address, Speaker Thomas warmly welcomed the young attendees, emphasizing that their presence sent a powerful message: “Your voices matter.”
He underscored the importance of children as the nation’s most significant stakeholders, noting that the day’s theme reinforces every child’s right to participate in shaping their own future.
Speaker Thomas also announced that Parliament would host a National Children’s Dialogue at 2:00 p.m. in Committee Room One, organized in collaboration with several parliamentary committees.
The dialogue, he said, would bring together the Health, Gender, and Social Welfare committees, among others, to deliberate on critical issues affecting children.
The Chairman of the Legislative Committee, Hon. Abdul Sulaiman Marray-Conteh, also addressed the gathering, sharing plans for a special celebration in Committee Room One with selected committees.
Opposition Deputy Leader 1, Hon. Daniel Brima Koroma, joined in the festivities and encouraged the pupils to remain focused on their education.
He referenced President Bio’s Free Quality Education programme and reminded them of their responsibility to study hard and strive for excellence as the nation’s future leaders.
The celebration reinforced Parliament’s commitment to providing children with a platform to express their concerns and ensuring that their rights remain a priority at the highest levels of governance.
