Hercules Cave a tourist destination in the Port City of Tangier

The Hercules Cave is situated 14 Km on the Cape Spartel from the centre of Tangier, with an entrance from the Atlantic ocean to the inland. The cave is an archaeological cave that attracts hundreds of tourist daily.

According to diverse research, the Cave is Tangier's premier tourist destination. According to Greek mythology, it was there that Hercules found rest. The myth tells that this demi-god carved the Strait of Gibraltar by separating the mountains, raising Jbel Tarik (Gibraltar) on one side and Jbel Moussa in Africa on the other.

The entrance of the cave from the sea has the shape of the map of Africa. According to the tourist guard, the Hercules Cave have two diverse designed, the one from the entrance of the sea is natural and the entrance from the inland is artificial.

The Caves known for its touristic environment from the top of Cape Spartel down to the Caves have a lot of natural features that attracts tourist from around the world. At the entrance of the cave, there are Moroccan cultural artefacts displayed by the indigenes that represents the beauty and culture of the Kingdom of Morocco.

It’s a revenue generation site for the city of Tangier. At the entrance tourists will que to buy ticket before entering the cave. In the cave viewing the sea, you’ll see the green colour of the Atlantic Ocean and the blue colour of the Mediterranean Sea to Spain and the visual image of the map of Africa.
